The two-week journey had taken us from east to west and then back to the east. We had seen what we wanted to see although some of us would wish we could have seen more!
Christchurch was our last stop. While it was going to be a farewell to most of the group members, five of us would stay on and proceed to the North Island (for another ten days).
The final day in Christchurch was ‘free and easy’ with members going their own way, finding their own activities – some chose to have a walk in the famous Botanic Gardens located on the western part of the city, while others went for sightseeing on tram / bus. Whatever each and everyone chose to do, all ended up shopping somewhere along the way.
Colombo Street, the main shopping street, is a good place to ‘clear’ the ‘left-over’ NZ$ before boarding the plane! And if you find yourself ended up short of money instead, just use the plastic ones! There are many shops selling outdoor gears, and most were having the year-end sales. All of us contributed to the economy, some on a small scale, while some perhaps on a larger scale!
Christ Church Cathedral in the middle of the Cathedral Square is a prominent landmark. While the main street was deserted, despite being a Saturday afternoon, the Square was the complete opposite. It was congested with tourists.
