Bungy Jump, Gondola Ride and Te Anau

We stayed in Queenstown for two nights. And with so much activities going on, two nights seemed a bit short but we had to move on. The highlight of the highlight – Milford Sound Track – was just two days away.

The second day in Queenstown saw us visiting the world’s first commercial bungy jumping site – Kawarau Bridge, 23km from Queenstown. The platform is 43m above the Kawarau River. Only the ‘brave’ ones, and there were only three from our group, attempted the jump. At NZ$ 1750.00 per jump, it was indeed an extremely expensive jump.

We visited Arrowtown, a former gold mining town. We took a walk at the old Chinese Miners Settlement.

Later in the afternoon, some of us opted to take a gondola ride up to the Skyline complex located on Bob’s Peak. The gondola, situated about 5 minutes walk form central Queenstown, is reputed to be the steepest lift in the Southern Hemisphere. The view from the top was superb and spectacular.

The following day, we travelled to Te Anau. For the first time, we arrived at our destination early in the day instead of late in the evening or at night. But it was good as we needed the time to prepare ourselves, pack the necessary stuff, have a good rest for the Milford Track, which was due to start the following day.
